Proctors Theatre
Since 1926, Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, NY – a historic, beautifully restored theatre located in the heart of downtown – has presented the very best in entertainment for New York’s Capital Region. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Proctors Theatre has seen its stage graced by such legendary performers from Duke Ellington to George Burns and Gracie Allen to Tony Bennet to Mariah Carey.
In 2004, the theatre launched a 22.5 million dollar expansion. This project, while carefully preserving the historic elements of the theatre, greatly expanded the backstage area, allowing for larger-scale productions, added an additional 450-seat theatre, new offices and dressing rooms and other amenities.
Included in the expansion was Proctors Theater new Central District Plant. The plant not only provides energy for heating and cooling of the theater, but also has capacity that allows it to sell energy to several other participating businesses in the Downtown Schenectady arts and entertainment district. At the height of this Central Plant are (2) Unilux Model 1000 HS Section 1 higher pressure steam boilers with Power Flame Low NOx IFGR burners. Working together: Mr. Phillip Morris, CEO Proctors Theatre; Mr. Joe Amanto, lead engineer, M/E Engineering, Albany, NY, Mr. Gus Stants, Stants Combustion, Albany, NY and the Unilux factory office … the equipment was delivered on December 15, 2005.
Theatre spokeswoman Kathy Jarvis says the in-house energy plant is a big investment that will pay off in the long run, “This is obviously state of the art heating and cooling, which benefits us because it’s much cheaper for us to be doing it this way and also provides us an opportunity to work with the various businesses and provide a low energy heating cost to everyone,” Jarvis said.
